COURT SENTENCED WOMAN TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON. Friday, January 20, 2023, Marlena Emptage was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $53.1 million for cannabis possession by Magistrate Leron Daly after admitting to having 59 kgs of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.CANU officers conducted an operation on Norton Street and Louisa Row Wortmanville, Georgetown, on January 18, 2023, and discovered 59 kgs of cannabis hidden in barrels and shopping bags. This led to the Unit issuing wanted bulletins for Emptage and two others. They later reported to CANU headquarters accompanied by their Lawyer

CANU DISCOVERS 1.920 KG OF CANNABIS CANU officers were contacted on January 20, 2023, after packages of suspected cannabis were discovered in a box shipped from the United States at the Muneshwar shipping limited. CANU officers arrived on the scene and conducted additional searches before taking possession of the box.The box was then transported the box to CANU headquarters in the presence of the employee of the shipping company, who made the discovery. The suspected cannabis tested positive for cannabis and amounted to 1.920 kgs.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 123.85 Kg OF CANNABIS On 11th January 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation within the vicinity of Mandela Avenue, where they intercepted a motor vehicle with a single occupant. A subsequent search of the motor vehicle revealed several parcels of suspected cannabis. Further investigations, led to the suspect being escorted to a premises located in Eccles Housing scheme, East Bank Demerara, where a search of the premises was conducted in the presence of the suspect and the owner, resulting in the discovery of several parcels of suspected cannabis, some of which were concealed in barrels. Sean Thomas, called Yankee, 43 years, of Lot 59 William Street, Kitty, Georgetown, and Bulah London, 41 years, of Lot 434 of the Eccles Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, were arrested and escorted to CANU’s headquarters along with the suspected narcotics, which tested positive for cannabis and amounted to 123.85 kg with a street value of approximately GUY $37 million.
