CANU/GRA SEIZE $12.5M IN IMPORTED WEED, ALCOHOL On 29th December 2023, CANU /GRA in a joint operation, carried out a search at a location in the Crabwood Creek area, Corentyne, Berbice. During the search, several parcels of suspected cannabis and several cases of uncustomed alcohol were discovered.The suspected narcotic and the uncustomed alcohol were escorted to the GRA location for processing. The narcotic tested positive for imported cannabis (creepy weed) with a total weight of 22 kg (48.5 lbs.) and a street value of GUY $ 12.5 M due to the higher THC content.Investigations are ongoing.These Joint operations are conducted throughout the country to prevent the trafficking of narcotics and the smuggling of contraband goods.

CANU DISCOVERED APPROXIMATELY 10.8 KG OF CANNABIS On the 23rd December, 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of James and Hill Streets, Albouystown. During the operation, Officers observed a male carrying a bag. Upon noticing the CANU Officers, the individual quickly fled into an empty lot in the vicinity of James and Hill streets, where he abandoned the said bag and made good his escape.A thorough search of the empty lot led to the discovery of the said bag, which contained four (4) parcels of suspected cannabis.The narcotic was escorted to CANU’s Headquarters, where it tested positive for cannabis with a total weight of 10.8 kg (approximately 24.5 lbs.) with a local street value of approximately GUY $3.3 M.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERED MAN WITH CANNABIS On 21st December 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation between Adventure, and Good Hope, Essequibo Coast where they intercepted a motor car. A subsequent search of the said motor vehicle was conducted in the presence of the driver which led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis, and the arrest of another suspect.Mitztroy Dash, 42 years of Good Hope Essequibo and Rayborn Gordon, 32 years of lima sand, Essequibo were arrested and escorted to CANU’s headquarters along with the suspected cannabis. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis and had a total weight of 2.4 kg, with a street value of approximately GUY $1M.Investigations are ongoing

CANU DISCOVERED ECSTASY PILLS On 20th December 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Dennis Street ‘C’ Field Sophia. During the operation, they intercepted and searched a male individual, which led to the discovery of a quantity of pills suspected to be ecstasy.Joshua Josiah Mentore, 23 years, of Patterson, Georgetown, was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The pills tested positive for ecstasy with a total weight of approximately 34 grammes. There was a total of eighty (80) pills.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERED APPROXIMATELY 12.54 KG OF CANNABIS in linden On 30th November, 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Providence, East Bank Demerara in the vicinity of a popular mall, where they intercepted a motor car bearing registration number PAE 6311 driven by a lone occupant.A subsequent search of the motor car led to the discovery of a salt bag containing bulky parcels suspected to be cannabis.Leonard Caleb, 37 years of Amelia’s Ward, Linden was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis, weighing approximately 12.54 kg (almost 27.6 lbs.), with a street value of approximately GUY $ 4 million.Investigations are ongoing.

APPROXIMATELY 1M WORTH OF CANNABIS DISCOVERED IN ONE Mile, Linden On the 1st of December 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation in One Mile, Linden where they observed a male carrying a tub containing several bulky parcels. Upon noticing the CANU Officers, the individual quickly abandoned the tub and successfully fled the scene.A subsequent search of the tub revealed three (3) bulky parcels suspected to be cannabis.The suspected narcotic was taken to CANU’s Headquarters, where it tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 7.5 lbs. (3.4 kg) with a local street value of approximately GUY $1 M.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERED 9.6KG OF CANNABIS 15th November, 2023 CANU Officers acting on information received conducted an operation at Charity waterfront, Essequibo Coast. During the which, officers observed a male with a bag acting suspiciously within the vicinity.As officers approached the area, the man fled towards the Pomeroon River and managed to escape in a speedboat that proceeded in the northern direction.A subsequent search of the vicinity led to the discovery of several bulky parcels of suspected cannabis.The suspected cannabis was transported to CANU Headquarters, where it tested positive for cannabis “Creepy Weed”, with a total weight of approximately 9.6 kg (about 21.16 lbs.).Investigations are ongoing.

MAN SENTENCED TO 48 months IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE Please be informed that, Esmond Anderson appeared before Magistrate Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate Court charged with the offence of trafficking in narcotics to wit 2.996 kg of cocaine. Anderson was found guilty and sentenced to forty-eight (48) months imprisonment with a fine of GYD $ 4.4 M.Anderson was arrested on 18th February 2022, at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), after CANU Officers discovered approximately 2.996 kg of cocaine in one of his luggage.

TIMEHRI MAN SENTENCED TO 4 YEARS IMPRISONMENT WITH FINE On the 18th August, 2023, Andrew Rodriguez appeared before Magistrate Scarce at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics to wit 2.160kg of cocaine. He was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment and fined GY $3,240,000. Duane Joseph, who was charged in relation to the same matter, with aiding the commission of trafficking in narcotic, also appeared before Magistrate Scarce. Joseph pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. The was matter adjourned to the 19th September 2023. Andrew Rodriguez, 43 years of 4 -C North of South Dakota Racing Circuit, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, and Duane Joseph, 20 years of 161 Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara, were arrested on the 15th of August 2023 after CANU Officers discovered four (4) brick-like packages of cocaine at Rodriguez’s residence. The narcotic weighed approximately 2.160 kg (almost 4.76 lbs.) and had a street value of approximately GUY $ 2.2 million.
