CANU Seizes a Quantity of Cocaine On Wednesday, 7th May 2025, CANU Officers, acting on information received,conducted an operation at Lombard and Sussex streets, Georgetown, where theyintercepted a motor car. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed ten (10)brick-like parcels, containing a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. Colin Alfred and Terrence Bentinck were arrested and escorted to CANUheadquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaineand weighed 11.148 kilograms. A wanted bulletin was subsequently issued for JasonLloyd De Freitas aka “Whiteboy” in connection with the seizure and he has sinceturned himself in. Investigations are ongoing.

CANU & GRA Officers Seize a Quantity of Cannabis at CJIA On Wednesday, April 30th 2025, Customs Officers of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and CANU officers, acting on information received, searched two (2)incoming barrels from the United States of America (USA), which led to the discovery ofseveral transparent parcels containing a quantity of foreign cannabis. The quantity offoreign cannabis was subsequently escorted to CANU’s Headquarters, which weighed 16.4 kilograms.CANU Officers, whilst conducting a follow-up investigation at Lot XX6 North EastLa Penitence Georgetown, searched the residence, which led to the discovery of a blackgarbage bag containing several packets of foreign zip-lock bags, small plastic containersused to package cannabis, and rolling paper. The items were confiscated, and two (2)persons are in custody assisting with investigations.

TRIAL UPDATE: MARK BARCLAY Please be informed that on Wednesday, 19th March 2025, Mark Barclay appeared before Magistrate Hardy at the No.51 Magistrate’s Court, where he pled guilty to the offense of possession of 18 grams of cannabis and 131 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He was sentenced to three (3) years and four (4) months imprisonment. Barclay was arrested following an operation conducted by CANU Officers at a residence in Orealla Village, Region 6, where a quantity ofcocaine and cannabis was uncovered.  The Unit remains resilient in its commitment to preventing the flow of narcotics throughout the country. CANU SEIZES A QUANTITY OF COCAINE AT THE CHEDDI JAGAN INT. AIRPORT (CJIA) On Thursday, 5th December 2024, CANU officers—while performing duties at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), including conducting routine searches on several persons—discovered a quantity of cocaine strapped to the body of a female Aviation Security Officer attached to CJIA.’ Keesha Greene, age twenty-nine (29) years old, an Aviation Security Officer attached to CJIA of Lot 5 Grant Road, Soesdyke, E.B.D., was arrested and escorted to CANU’s headquarters along with a quantity of cocaine, which weighed 2.152 kgs. Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of Shaquille Thompson, age twenty-eight (28) years old, an Airport Security Officer attached to CJIA of Lot 5 Grant Road, Soesdyke, E.B.D., and the discovery of an additional quantity of cocaine that weighed 2.134 kg, thus amounting to a total of 4.286 kg of cocaine. Investigations are ongoing.

Lennox Gowen Arrested and Escorted to CANU Headquarters with Suspected Narcotic

Lennox Gowen Arrested On Monday, November 18, 2024, CANU Officers conducted a narcotic operation at the Eno Backtrack Service in Springlands, Corentyne, Berbice, which led to the discovery of a whitish powdery substance, suspected to be cocaine, concealed within false walls of a black suitcase. Further investigations led to the arrest of a 44-year-old businessman. Lennox Gowen, of 572 Avocado Street, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who is also known as “Nunkie”, was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters, along with the suspected narcotic. The substance tested positive for cocaine, with a total weight of 3.8 kilogrammes (approximately 8.38 lbs.) Investigations are ongoing.

Mark Paris and Kester Fraser Arrested with 1.168kg of Cocaine On Wednesday, 13th November 2024, CANU Officers, acting on information received, conducted an operation at Forshaw and Irving Street, Georgetown, where they intercepted a motorcar. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed one (1) bricklike parcel containing a quantity of cocaine.  Mark Paris, age forty-three (43) years old, a Taxi Driver of Shirley Field, Ridley Square, Georgetown, and the occupant Kester Fraser, age twenty-five (25) years old, a businessman of 13 Sussex Street, Charlestown were arrested, and escorted to CANU’s headquarters along with the quantity of cocaine, which weighed 1.168kgs. Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of Nigel Isaacs, age thirty-six (36) years old, a taxi driver of A3 Guyhoc Gardens, Georgetown.   Investigations are ongoing.
