Conviction thursday 18th January, 2024 Please be informed that on Thursday 18th January, 2024, Joshua Mentore appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Isaacs, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for probation report and sentencing. Mentore was sentenced to nine (9) months imprisonment and fined GYD 153,000.

CANU charges and conviction: David McDonald On 19th January, 2024, David Mc Donald appeared before Magistrate Liverpool at the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Court, charged with the offence of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of Trafficking to wit 84 grammes of cannabis. Mc Donald pleaded guilty and was fined GYD 75,000 or default six (6) months imprisonment.

CANU discovers outgoing passenger at the Eugene F. Correira International Airport with 84 grams of cannabis in his possession On Wednesday 17th January 2024, CANU Officers conducted a search on an outgoing passenger at the Eugene F. Correira International Airport, East Coast Demerara, destined to Aurora, Region 7, and found a transparent parcel containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.David McDonald, age 23, a labourer of Lot 23 Old Kara Kara, McKenzie Linden, was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the narcotic which was weighed and amounted to 84 grams.Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS FIREARM DURING OPERATION IN EAST RUIMVELDT
CANU seizes firearm and ammunition On Tuesday 16th January 2024, CANU Officers conducted an operation in the East Ruimveldt area, where they observed a male carrying a bulky salt bag. Upon seeing the CANU Officers, the male dropped the said bag and made good his escape. A subsequent search of the bag revealed a 12-gauge shotgun and 5 matching rounds of ammunition.The firearm along with the ammunition was escorted to CANU’s Headquarters.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU officers carried out an eradication exercise in St. Cuthbert’s Mission District, Mahaica River. On Tuesday 16th January 2024, CANU Officers conducted an eradication exercise in the St. Cuthbert’s Mission District, Mahaica River, where they discovered approximately two hundred (200) small cannabis plants. The plants were destroyed. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU discovers 55.2 kg of cannabis at a residence in Block 1 Unity, Hubu Parika.
CANU OPERATION UNVEILS MAJOR CANNABIS SEIZURE IN UNITY HUBU PARIKA On 15th January 2024, CANU Officers conducted an operation at a residence in Block 1 Unity Hubu Parika. During the operation, a search was conducted at the residence, resulting in the discovery of several large bags containing several brick-like parcels of suspected cannabis and the arrest of two suspects who were present during the search.Latchman Sankar aka Jack, 39 years of the said address, and Sanya Ramrattan aka Shena 36 years of Sisters Village W.B.D, were escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis, amounting to one hundred and two (102) parcels weighing a total of 55.2 kg, with a total street value of approximately GUY $20 million.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU OPERATION IN NORTON STREET UNCOVERS ILLEGAL AMMUNITION On 13th January 2024, CANU Officers conducted an operation in Norton Street, Wortmanville. During the operation, a search was conducted on a male, leading to the discovery of several types of ammunition.Ron Fletchman, 46 years of Melanie Damishana, E.C.D., was arrested, escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the ammunition, and subsequently handed over to the police with the said ammunition for further investigation.The ammunition discovered included:Eleven (11) 9mmOne (1) .223A total of twelve (12).Investigations are ongoing.
Joint operation uncovers 92.6 kg of cannabis in Crabwood Creek
CANU/Guyana Police Force Operation Yields Significant Cannabis Seizure in Crabwood On the 12th January 2024, CANU / Guyana Police Force Officers conducted an operation in the Crabwood Creek area, Corentyne Berbice. During the operation, they observed two males loading bulky parcels onto a boat that was moored at the time.Upon noticing the presence of CANU Officers, the individuals attempted to flee the scene. One of the suspects was successfully apprehended by officers, while the other managed to escape.A subsequent search of the said boat revealed several bulky parcels of suspected cannabis.Anthony Sugrim, of Crabwood Creek, who was previously arrested by CANU on the 11th August 2023, was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 204 lbs. (92.6kg).Investigations are ongoing.
GRA (CANU) During a joint operation, the village of #65 uncovers illicit alcohol and additional contraband items.
CANU AND GRA JOINT OPERATION UNCOVERS CONTRABAND On 9th January 2024, CANU /GRA in a joint operation, in #65 village, Corentyne, Berbice, during this operation a search was conducted on a vessel within the vicinity of a Koker channel. During this search, several cases of uncustomed alcohol were discovered, along with other contraband items. The uncustomed alcohol and contraband items were escorted to the GRA location for processing. Investigations are ongoing. CANU continues to collaborate with other law enforcement agencies to prevent the trafficking of narcotics and the smuggling of contraband goods.

CANU ARRESTED MAN WITH 72.2 GRAMMES OF CANNABIS Date: Friday 1st March, 2024 Please be informed that on today’s date, Mitzroy Dash appeared before Magistrate Sam at the Charity Magistrate’s Court, where he was found guilty for the offence of trafficking in narcotic to wit 2.4 kilograms of cocaine.Dash was sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment and fined Two Million One Hundred Sixty Thousand Dollars (GY$2,160,000).
