TIMEHRI MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO THE CHARGE OF TRAFFICKING IN NARCOTICS TO WIT 2.160 KG OF COCAINE On the 18th August, 2023, Andrew Rodriguez appeared before Magistrate Scarce at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics to wit 2.160kg of cocaine. He was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment and fined GY $3,240,000. Duane Joseph, who was charged in relation to the same matter, with aiding the commission of trafficking in narcotic, also appeared before Magistrate Scarce. Joseph pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. The was matter adjourned to the 19th September 2023. Andrew Rodriguez, 43 years of 4 -C North of South Dakota Racing Circuit, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, and Duane Joseph, 20 years of 161 Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara, were arrested on the 15th of August 2023 after CANU Officers discovered four (4) brick-like packages of cocaine at Rodriguez’s residence. The narcotic weighed approximately 2.160 kg (almost 4.76 lbs.) and had a street value of approximately GUY $ 2.2 million.

CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY GUY $1 MILLION WORTH OF CANNABIS AT Charity stelling On the 2nd of June 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Charity stelling where a subsequent search of a boat in the presence of the sole occupant revealed a box containing a number of parcels suspected to be cannabis. Rocky Mangra, 42 years, of Grant St.Joseph , Lower Pomeroon was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive as was discovered to be imported cannabis known as “creepy” with a weight of approximately 6.9 lbs. (3.128 kg) with a street value of approximately GUY $1 Million. Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 491.6 LBS OF CANNABIS On June 5th, 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of Koker, located in number 65 village, Corentyne Berbice. A subsequent search of the nearby bushes uncovered eight ( 8 ) bulky salt bags containing several parcels of suspected cannabis. Two (2) persons are in custody pending investigations The suspected narcotic was transported to CANU Headquarters, where it tested positive for cannabis amounting to approximately 223 kg (about 491.6 lbs.), with a street value of approximately GUY$ 67 M.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS FIREARM AND A QUANTITY OF CANNABIS IN HERSTELLING EBD On the 5th June, 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Block V Herstelling, East Bank, Demerara. A subsequent search of the premises revealed three (3) parcels of suspected cannabis and the arrest of a male suspect.A further search was conducted on the outer perimeter of the said address, which led to the discovery of a black 12-guage shotgun. Malik Forde, 27 years of the said address was arrested along with two (2) other suspects and escorted to CANU Headquarters with the firearm and suspected narcotics. The narcotics tested positive for cannabis amounting to approximately 4.33 kg (about 9.5 lbs.), with a street value of approximately GUY 1.6M.Investigations are ongoing.

Please be informed that on today’s date, Virjanand Narain appeared before Magistrate Ranita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court to answer the charge of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking to wit 66.9 grammes of ecstasy and 101.5 grammes of hashish aka cannabis resin. Narain pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment with a fine of GY $688,350.

CANU INTERCEPTS SURINAMESE NATIONAL WITH A QUANTITY OF MDMA (ESTASY) AND HASHISH On the 3rd June, 2023, CANU Officers while conducting an operation at Eliza Mary, Corriverton, Berbice, intercepted a male Surinamese national with a quantity of narcotics suspected to be MDMA (ecstasy) and hashish.Virjanand Narain, was arrested and escorted to CANU HQ, Berbice along with the suspected narcotics where it was weighed and tested. The drugs contained 69.9 grammes of MDMA and 101.5 grammes of hashish, both of which tested positive for their respective substances.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS AMMUNITION AT AVOCADO SQUARE EAST RUIMVELDT On the 25th of May 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at an abandoned house located at Avocado Square East Ruimveldt, Georgetown which led to the discovery of various types of ammunitions. The ammunition discovered included: Six hundred (600) .40mm rounds Three hundred and thirty (330) .380mm rounds Thirty-three (33) .45mm rounds One hundred and seven (107) .22mm rounds A total of one thousand and seventy (1070) rounds The ammunition was transported to CANU headquarters. No arrest was made. Investigations are ongoing.

Please be informed that on today’s date, Anthony Wilson appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate Court charged with the offence of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking to wit approximately 18 lbs (8.2 kgs) of cannabis. Wilson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 54 months imprisonment with a fine of approximately GY $ 7.3 MIL.

CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY cannabis and cocaine AT Coconut Estate, Unity, East Coast Demerara On the 19th of May 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at the Coconut Estate, Unity, East Coast Demerara. Upon approaching the estate, Officers noticed two individuals fleeing the scene. A subsequent search of a boat shed and a speed boat at the estate revealed a small cannabis plant, and a quantity of suspected narcotics. The narcotics, along with a cannabis plant, were transported to CANU Headquarters. The suspected narcotics, tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. The cannabis amounting to approximately 430 grammes and the cocaine amounting to 164 grammes. Investigations are ongoing.

Sealey pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 1 year 6 months imprisonment with a fine of GY $ 544,000.00 .
