CANU DISCOVERS 5 LBS. OF CANNABIS WITH A STREET VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $ 400,000 MIL On the 16th March 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of Lombard Street, Charlestown, Georgetown where they intercepted a male carrying a backpack. A subsequent search of the said backpack led to the discovery of a parcel containing suspected cannabis Akeem Archer, 27 years, of the Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 5 lbs. (2.33 kg) with a street value of approximately GUY $400,000. Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY 13.4 LBS. OF COCAINE On the 2nd of March 2023, CANU Officers intercepted an outgoing male passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, who was destined to travel to the United States of America. Cranson Carlson Henry, 52 years, of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara and of Rockaway Avenue 11212 Brooklyn, New York, United States of America was questioned, after which he admitted to having a quantity of narcotics in his luggage. The suspect was cautioned and a video of same was taken as evidence.  A subsequent search was conducted, which led to the discovery of seven (7) Milex milk packets containing a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. Henry was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 13.4 lbs. (6.070 kg) with a street value of GUY $13.3 Million.                             The value would have been higher had the cocaine arrived at its intended destination. Further investigations, led to the arrest of singer Mark Ferdinand, 44 years, of Samaria Dam, Pouderoyen, who was previously arrested in 2015 in the United States of America for drug trafficking. Berkeley Ferdinand, the brother of Mark Ferdinand was previously charged by CANU in 2016 for trafficking in narcotics and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 11.58 Kgs OF CANNABIS On 25th January 2023, CANU officers intercepted a motor car with a sole occupant on the Avenue of the Republic in the vicinity of City Hall. A subsequent search of the said vehicle revealed a salt bag containing several parcels of suspected cannabis.Clyde Anthony Barrett, aka “Clivey” 45 years, of Calendar Street, Albouystown, and owner of City Vibes Sports Bar and Lounge, was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cannabis, amounting to a total of 11.58 kgs with a street value of approximately GUY $ 3.5 Million.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 1.1 LBS. OF COCAINE On the 22nd of February 2023, CANU officers while performing duties at the Guyana Post Office Corporation intercepted a male, who was attempting to post a box containing several items. A subsequent search of the box was conducted in the presence of the said individual, which led to the discovery of a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine. Michael Emmanuel Ude, 33 years, a Nigerian national of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 1.1lbs. (482g) with a street value of GUY $400,000. Further investigation, later resulted in the arrest of another Nigerian national Gift Obioha, 26 years, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown. Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 1.542 Kgs OF CANNABIS On the 21st of February 2023, CANU officers acting on information received conducted an operation at Norton Street, Georgetown where they intercepted a motor vehicle bearing Registration number PHH 9387. A subsequent search of the said vehicle was conducted in the presence of the driver and another occupant, which led to the discovery of three (3) brick like parcels of suspected cannabis.Chaterpaul Singh, aka “Dutchie”, 39 years, of First Street Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara and Anesia Isfehani, 24 years, of Crown Dam Industry, East Coast Demerara were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 3.3 lbs. (1.542 kgs) with a street value of GUY $500,000.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY GUY $1.1 MILLION WORTH OF cocaine. On the 21st February 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at a property located on Norton Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown. A search of the premises was conducted in the presence of two (2) persons that were present at the time, which led to the discovery of a brick like parcel suspected to be cocaine.  Andre Clarke, 50 years, of the said address, along with Eon Martin, 45 years of Pike Street Kitty, were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cocaine, amounting to 2.55 lbs. (1.158 kgs) with a street value of GUY $1.1 Million. Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 23.2Kgs OF CANNABIS On the 1st February, 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation at East Coast Demerara, to intercept a motor vehicle. The said vehicle drove into Buxton and evaded the officers on several occasions, including at a roadblock on Buxton public road.A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of twelve (12) parcels of suspected cannabis, which amounted to 23.2kgs. The driver, Odearie Phillips, 25 years of Vigilance Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, was arrested.The street value of the drugs is approximately GUY $7 Million.Members of the public became hostile, assaulted several officers and damaged several of the unit’s vehicles in an attempt to free Phillips who was in lawful custody, by pulling him out of CANU’s vehicle. This resulted in several shots being discharged in the air.Investigations are in progress.

CANU DISCOVERS 1.050 Kgs OF COCAINE On 27th January 2023, CANU conducted an operation at premises located on Santiniketan Street, Prasad Nagar, Georgetown. A search of the house was conducted in the presence of three (3) persons that were present at the time, which led to the discovery of a brick-like parcel suspected to be cocaine.Lena Narine, 63 years, of the said address and owner of the premises, along with Sherlan Edmondson, 54 years also of the said address, and Earl Branch, 49 years of Pike Street, Kitty, were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cocaine, amounting to 1.050 kg, with a street value of approximately GUY $1.1 Million.Leana Narine, was previously arrested along with two other persons in March 2022, when CANU officers discovered 11.4 kgs of cocaine and 266g ecstasy at this same address.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 3.4 Kg OF CANNABIS On 25th January, 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation at a premises in Tabatinga, Lethem. A search of the premises led to the discovery of two parcels of suspected cannabis concealed in a bucket.Three persons were arrested and escorted to CANU’s Lethem Office, along with the suspected cannabis, which tested positive for cannabis and weighed a total of 3.4 kg with a street value of approximately GUY $1 million.Investigations are ongoing.

CANU DISCOVERS 12 GAGE SHOTGUNS. On 22nd January 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation at Dukestown Corentyne Berbice. The officers conducted a search at a residence, which led to the discovery of two 12-gauge shotguns in the living room area. The weapons were confiscated and transported to CANU’s HQ. An individual later identified as John Byass, was seen fleeing as the officers were gaining entry to the location.A wanted bulletin has been published Investigations are ongoing.
