CANU seizes cocaine at tuschen On the 5th September 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation at Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo, which resulted in the seizure of approximately 7.8 kg (about 17.1 lbs.) of cocaine with an estimated street value of approximately GUY $8 M.Two (2) persons are currently in custody, assisting with investigations.
TIMEHRI MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO THE CHARGE OF TRAFFICKING IN NARCOTICS TO WIT 2.160 KG OF COCAINE On the 18th August, 2023, Andrew Rodriguez appeared before Magistrate Scarce at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics to wit 2.160kg of cocaine. He was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment and fined GY $3,240,000. Duane Joseph, who was charged in relation to the same matter, with aiding the commission of trafficking in narcotic, also appeared before Magistrate Scarce. Joseph pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. The was matter adjourned to the 19th September 2023. Andrew Rodriguez, 43 years of 4 -C North of South Dakota Racing Circuit, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, and Duane Joseph, 20 years of 161 Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara, were arrested on the 15th of August 2023 after CANU Officers discovered four (4) brick-like packages of cocaine at Rodriguez’s residence. The narcotic weighed approximately 2.160 kg (almost 4.76 lbs.) and had a street value of approximately GUY $ 2.2 million.
CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY GUY $1 MILLION WORTH OF CANNABIS AT Charity stelling On the 2nd of June 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Charity stelling where a subsequent search of a boat in the presence of the sole occupant revealed a box containing a number of parcels suspected to be cannabis. Rocky Mangra, 42 years, of Grant St.Joseph , Lower Pomeroon was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive as was discovered to be imported cannabis known as “creepy” with a weight of approximately 6.9 lbs. (3.128 kg) with a street value of approximately GUY $1 Million. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 491.6 LBS OF CANNABIS On June 5th, 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of Koker, located in number 65 village, Corentyne Berbice. A subsequent search of the nearby bushes uncovered eight ( 8 ) bulky salt bags containing several parcels of suspected cannabis. Two (2) persons are in custody pending investigations The suspected narcotic was transported to CANU Headquarters, where it tested positive for cannabis amounting to approximately 223 kg (about 491.6 lbs.), with a street value of approximately GUY$ 67 M.Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS FIREARM AND A QUANTITY OF CANNABIS IN HERSTELLING EBD On the 5th June, 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Block V Herstelling, East Bank, Demerara. A subsequent search of the premises revealed three (3) parcels of suspected cannabis and the arrest of a male suspect.A further search was conducted on the outer perimeter of the said address, which led to the discovery of a black 12-guage shotgun. Malik Forde, 27 years of the said address was arrested along with two (2) other suspects and escorted to CANU Headquarters with the firearm and suspected narcotics. The narcotics tested positive for cannabis amounting to approximately 4.33 kg (about 9.5 lbs.), with a street value of approximately GUY 1.6M.Investigations are ongoing.
Man SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IMPRISONMENT WITH A FINE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $ 688,350. Please be informed that on today’s date, Virjanand Narain appeared before Magistrate Ranita Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court to answer the charge of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking to wit 66.9 grammes of ecstasy and 101.5 grammes of hashish aka cannabis resin. Narain pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three (3) years imprisonment with a fine of GY $688,350.
CANU INTERCEPTS SURINAMESE NATIONAL WITH A QUANTITY OF MDMA (ESTASY) AND HASHISH On the 3rd June, 2023, CANU Officers while conducting an operation at Eliza Mary, Corriverton, Berbice, intercepted a male Surinamese national with a quantity of narcotics suspected to be MDMA (ecstasy) and hashish.Virjanand Narain, was arrested and escorted to CANU HQ, Berbice along with the suspected narcotics where it was weighed and tested. The drugs contained 69.9 grammes of MDMA and 101.5 grammes of hashish, both of which tested positive for their respective substances.Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS AMMUNITION AT AVOCADO SQUARE EAST RUIMVELDT On the 25th of May 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at an abandoned house located at Avocado Square East Ruimveldt, Georgetown which led to the discovery of various types of ammunitions. The ammunition discovered included: Six hundred (600) .40mm rounds Three hundred and thirty (330) .380mm rounds Thirty-three (33) .45mm rounds One hundred and seven (107) .22mm rounds A total of one thousand and seventy (1070) rounds The ammunition was transported to CANU headquarters. No arrest was made. Investigations are ongoing.
MAN SENTENCED TO fifty four months IMPRISONMENT WITH A FINE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $7.3 MIL. Please be informed that on today’s date, Anthony Wilson appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate Court charged with the offence of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking to wit approximately 18 lbs (8.2 kgs) of cannabis. Wilson pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 54 months imprisonment with a fine of approximately GY $ 7.3 MIL.
CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY cannabis and cocaine AT Coconut Estate, Unity, East Coast Demerara On the 19th of May 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at the Coconut Estate, Unity, East Coast Demerara. Upon approaching the estate, Officers noticed two individuals fleeing the scene. A subsequent search of a boat shed and a speed boat at the estate revealed a small cannabis plant, and a quantity of suspected narcotics. The narcotics, along with a cannabis plant, were transported to CANU Headquarters. The suspected narcotics, tested positive for cannabis and cocaine. The cannabis amounting to approximately 430 grammes and the cocaine amounting to 164 grammes. Investigations are ongoing.
WOMAN SENTENCED TO ONE YEAR, AND SIX MONTHS IMPRISONMENT WITH A FINE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $544,000.00 Please be informed that Allico Sealey appeared before Magistrate Hugh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate Court charged with the offence of possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking to wit approximately 908 grammes of cannabis and 260 grammes of cannabis seeds. Sealey pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 1 year 6 months imprisonment with a fine of GY $ 544,000.00 .
CANU DISCOVERS 18 LBS. OF CANNABIS On the 17th of May 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at 101 Hunter Street Albouystown, Georgetown. A subsequent search of a shop located at the said address, lead to the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis and the arrest of a male suspect. Anthony Oscar Wilson, 41 years of the above-mentioned address, was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 18 lbs. (8.2 kg) with a street value of approximately GY $2.5 MIL. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 6.3 LBS. OF CANNABIS On the 17th of May 2023, CANU Officers acting on information received, conducted a search operation at an Interior Transportation Service company, which led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis concealed in a box containing packs of snacks. The suspected narcotic was confiscated and transported to CANU Headquarters, where it tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 6.3 lbs. (2.85 kg) with a street value of approximately GY $1 MIL. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 2.6 LBS. OF CANNABIS AT PITT STREET NEW AMSTERDAM On the 15th of May 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation at Pitt Street, New Amsterdam, Berbice. A subsequent search of the property led to the discovery of a quantity of suspected cannabis and the arrest of three (3) individuals. Nigel Abbensetts, 49 years, Allico Sealey, 31 years, both of the above- mentioned address, and Rudolph Abbensetts, 42 years of Angoys Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 2.6 lbs. (1.2 kg) with a street value of $400,000.00 GYD. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 63 LBS. OF CANNABIS WITH A STREET VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $ 11.5 MIL. On the 19th of April 2023, CANU officers conducted an operation at Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo that resulted in the seizure of twenty-three (23) brick-like parcels suspected to contain cannabis. The suspected narcotic was tested and weighed, and it was discovered to be imported cannabis (known as creepy) with a total weight of approximately 63 lbs. (24.8 kgs), with a street value of approximately GUY $11.5 M Investigations are ongoing. CANU continues to work with other law enforcement agencies to stem the flow of narcotics in and out of the country while maintaining an effective presence at the various points of entry / exit.
CANU DISCOVERS SEVERAL PARCELS OF CANNABIS On the 4th April 2023, CANU Officers intercepted one motor vehicle with a male occupant, bearing Registration number HB 5990 at Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo. A subsequent search was conducted on the said vehicle in the presence of the occupant, which led to the discovery of (12) brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis. Pradesh Hardwar, 51 years, of Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic was tested and weighed, it was discovered to be imported cannabis known as “poppy” with a total weight of approximately 30 lbs. (13.4 kg), with a street value of approximately GUY $5M Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 12 LBS. OF CANNABIS WITH A STREET VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY GYD $ 1.8 MIL On the 25th of March 2023, CANU officers intercepted a male carrying a haversack on Zeeburg Public Road. A subsequent search of the said haversack was conducted in the presence of the individual, which revealed five (5) brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis. Andy Jainandan, 30 years, of Parika, East Bank Essequibo was cautioned, arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic was tested and weighed, and it was discovered to be imported cannabis known as “poppy” with a total weight of approximately 12 lbs.(5.366 kgs) and a street value of approximately GYD $1.8M. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 30 LBS. OF CANNABIS WITH A STREET VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $ 5 MIL On the 20th March 2023, CANU Officers intercepted a motor vehicle with two (2) male occupants bearing Registration number HD 1880 at Charity Street, Charity, Essequibo. A subsequent search was conducted on the said vehicle in the presence of the occupants, which revealed twelve (12) brick-like parcels suspected to be cannabis. Naresh Ramdeen, 37 years, of Jack low, Pomeroon river, and Stefan Mohammed, 29 years of Coffee Grove, Essequibo Coast, were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic was tested and weighed, it was discovered to be imported cannabis with a total weight of approximately 30 lbs. (13.34 kg), with a street value of approximately GUY $5M. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS 5 LBS. OF CANNABIS WITH A STREET VALUE OF APPROXIMATELY GY $ 400,000 MIL On the 16th March 2023, CANU Officers conducted an operation in the vicinity of Lombard Street, Charlestown, Georgetown where they intercepted a male carrying a backpack. A subsequent search of the said backpack led to the discovery of a parcel containing suspected cannabis Akeem Archer, 27 years, of the Zeelugt Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cannabis and weighed approximately 5 lbs. (2.33 kg) with a street value of approximately GUY $400,000. Investigations are ongoing.
CANU DISCOVERS APPROXIMATELY 13.4 LBS. OF COCAINE On the 2nd of March 2023, CANU Officers intercepted an outgoing male passenger at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, who was destined to travel to the United States of America. Cranson Carlson Henry, 52 years, of Crane Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara and of Rockaway Avenue 11212 Brooklyn, New York, United States of America was questioned, after which he admitted to having a quantity of narcotics in his luggage. The suspect was cautioned and a video of same was taken as evidence. A subsequent search was conducted, which led to the discovery of seven (7) Milex milk packets containing a whitish powdery substance suspected to be cocaine. Henry was arrested and escorted to CANU’s Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic, which tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 13.4 lbs. (6.070 kg) with a street value of GUY $13.3 Million. The value would have been higher had the cocaine arrived at its intended destination. Further investigations, led to the arrest of singer Mark Ferdinand, 44 years, of Samaria Dam, Pouderoyen, who was previously arrested in 2015 in the United States of America for drug trafficking. Berkeley Ferdinand, the brother of Mark Ferdinand was previously charged by CANU in 2016 for trafficking in narcotics and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Investigations are ongoing.
